This amazing Blu-ray/DVD set features stunning footage of Kirk Thompson’s layout, which models the portion of the line between Helena and Mullan Pass, Montana. You’ll learn all about the history of this rail line, which was once owned by the Northern Pacific Railroad. You’ll see many of the trains that the BNSF hands over to the MRL as they haul heavy tonnage up the 2.2% grade on the model with the MRL’s SD70ACes as manned helpers. You’ll learn about the layout’s design and you’ll love how Kirk allowed space for the huge curve at Austin, where you can watch trains wrap around it as they climb the grade. The railfanning video includes grain, coal, oil, autorack, intermodal, and manifest trains taking on the pass. The movie also includes the MRL’s own local freight trains, switching in Helena, and a cab ride around the layout.
