Bringing History to Life in the Kokomo Valley
See the freelanced Kokomo Junction Railroad serving eastern Washington state. This modern railroad runs a mix of UP (and a few SP) diesels as well as the UP’s Challenger and Big Boy, as it is building a historic excursion line in the scenic Kokomo Valley. The railroad serves agriculture, logging, and mining industries. The Kokomo Junction Railroad feature explores the KJRR’s workings in the Kokomo Valley, where it serves the towns of Badger and Lewiston. You’ll enjoy the scenery of the valley and the sound of the heavy steam trains as they work to earn enough freight revenue to finish the excursion routes. You’ll also get to see the KJRR’s modern UP (and some SP) diesel locomotives working alongside the steam trains. We share a brief interview with John Pettigrew on the movie. He shares about the custom manual switch throws that he built for the layout.
Union Pacific Tackles the Blue Mountains
Experience Bill Arseneau’s N scale version of the La Grande Sub in the late 1980s to early 1990s. Long multi-loco lash-ups haul freight through the beautiful Blues in northeastern Oregon. You’ll enjoy the high traffic on the subdivision as the UP’s freights and the passenger train utilize the sidings at Hilgard and Motanic and work the steep mountain grades. The roster includes many SD40-2s teamed up to move grain, piggybacks, and intermodals up the grades. The Pioneer also makes its way through on the way to La Grande, Oregon, passing waiting freights as it descends the mountains.
